Akif Affan is a quantity surveyor with over 10 years of experience. He has been appointed as a quantum and commercial expert or supported the named expert on multiple occasions.
Akif has provided expert testimony in arbitration and litigation. He has acted as an expert for disputed sums of up to $100 million and projects valued in excess of $10 billion. He has also acted as an expert for cases referred to adjudication and mediation and has successfully mediated marine work disputes leading to out-of-court settlements.
Akif has worked on major international energy and civil engineering projects in Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Middle East, and Singapore. He has extensive experience with various contract forms (including FIDIC, PAM, PWD, PSSCOC, and bespoke agreements) and has prepared, defended and assessed complex contractual and quantum claims.
Akif’s specialises in assessment and quantification relating to delays and disruptions, loss of profits, variations, payments, insurance, and bonds. He has provided expert advice on a wide range of projects including specialised buildings, oil and gas, energy and renewables, infrastructure, and rail, among others.
Akif holds a first-class quantity surveying degree and a diploma in professional international arbitration. He is an accredited expert and practising member of the Academy of Experts, a provisional quantity surveyor on the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia, a graduate member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators, the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution, and the Society of Construction Law. Akif has lectured at higher education institutions in Malaysia and conducted numerous seminars covering topics related to his field of expertise.
