Maximilian Benz is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over a decade of construction industry experience. He has been appointed as a quantum expert and acted as lead assistant to the named expert on numerous occasions.
Maximilian has been appointed as the quantum expert in ICC arbitration proceedings and his evidence has been used in mediation. He has provided analytical and technical expertise in the development of expert opinion on various quantum matters for disputed values of up to $300 million and for project values of over $1 billion.
Maximilian’s experience covers projects in the industrial, oil and gas, power, aerospace, infrastructure and leisure sectors. He has worked for professional quantity surveying consultancies, contractors and developers. This varied background includes work on a number of iconic construction projects around the world, with his geographical experience covering Australia, Algeria, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Mongolia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
Maximilian’s expertise is quantum in construction, his experience includes the assessment of prolongation, disruption, changes and variations, employer claims, and the estimation of damages. In his capacity as the expert or lead assistant, he has provided opinion and assisted on the assessment of prolongation costs, variations, rectification estimates, and the assessment of employers claims such as penalties, liquidated damages and non-complete works, final account assessment, and contract price assessment in consideration of inflation.
Maximilian is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and an associate member of the Academy of Experts. He has undertaken the RICS expert witness certificate and holds a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying and a Master of Laws in construction law and arbitration.
