Robert is a Chartered Architect with over 35 years of post-qualification industry experience. He has been appointed as technical expert on over 90 occasions.

Robert has appeared in court as a witness to fact in a matter relating to legal proceedings raised against a client and as an expert witness in litigation at the Court of Session and Sherriff Court. He has been cross-examined in arbitration and has delivered concurrent evidence (hot-tubbing), as well as at various hearings and an international arbitration. He has attended numerous meetings with other experts and he has prepared minutes of agreement following such meetings. Robert has also been appointed as an adjudicator on numerous occasions as well as acting as arbitrator, mediator and in expert determination.

Robert has provided expert opinion on building defects including roof failure, water ingress, cladding and external wall failure, glazing failure, defective insulation, defective waterproofing, personal injury and professional negligence. He has also been required to give opinion on the services of the architect and the work of the contractor.

Robert has worked across Europe and the Middle East and specialises in residential, healthcare, education, commercial and conservation work. His expert witness work has included reviewing available documentation, carrying out forensic site investigation and instructing specialist independent testing.

Robert is a fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects (RIAS), a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a practising member of the Academy of Experts. He sits on the RIAS contracts committee, is a professional practice examiner for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and a past lead examiner with the Architects Registration Board (ARB), a guest lecturer at Glasgow School of Art and has spoken at numerous RIAS and RIAS Chapter events.
