Sarah Bull

Dr Sarah Bull is a registered toxicologist and human health risk assessor with over 20 years of experience. She has been appointed as a technical expert on two occasions.  

Sarah has provided written expert evidence for matters relating to potential adverse health effects following chemical exposure in an allotment due to historical contamination. She has completed expert witness training with Bond Solon. 

Sarah has worked at the Health Protection Agency (now UK Health Security Agency), and various consultancies, where she provided toxicology and risk assessment advice to Government agencies, expert governmental committees on toxicity, mutagenicity and carcinogenicity, and industrial stakeholders on the potential effects of chemicals on human health. 

Sarah specialises in toxicology and human health risk assessment, including the effect of chemicals in environmental media (air, soil, water, food, feed, cosmetics and consumer products) on human health. She has expertise in toxicological modelling including benchmark dose (BMD) modelling and quantitative structure analysis relationship (QSAR) modelling including OECD toolbox, ToxTree, Vega and AMBIT, and in newer toxicological concepts such as the use of threshold of toxicological concern (TTC), new approach methodologies (NAMs) and read-across. Sarah also has knowledge and experience of the hazard classification of substances and mixtures according to GHS/CLP, and registration of chemicals under REACH (including preparation of REACH dossiers), and chemical safety reports. 

Sarah is on the Royal Society of Chemistry Toxicology Committee. She is also a member of the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) Standards Advisory Group, the Herbal Medicines Advisory Committee (HMAC), the HSE REACH Independent Scientific Expert Pool (RISEP) committee, and the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) list of specialist experts. She is also an assessor on the UK Registry of Toxicology panel.
