Coal Chain Expansion Programme

Sangatta, East Kalimantan, Indonesia

13.8km conveyer and new 1 million tonne stockyard as part of an Indonesian coal mine expansion

Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to supply and install a new overland coal conveyor and coal stockyard for PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The scope of the coal chain expansion programme included supply and installation of a 13.8km 4,500 ton per hour conveyor system, as part of a mine expansion programme. The new coal stockpiles have a capacity of nearly 1 million tons reclaimed at a rate of up to 7,500 tons per hour for shiploading.

Brief

Independent expert delay report and supporting analysis in respect of delayed site access, contractor suspension and demobilisation, and subsequent termination.

What we did

The contractors progress was analysed in both areas affected and unaffected by the ground movement in the delayed area. An expert delay report was produced opining on the extent to which the access delay would have required the contractor to remain on site had it not suspended its work and demobilised.

Outcomes

The parties settled in advance of ICC arbitral proceedings.

"I am very proud of our track record in the mining sector.

We have provided expert opinion for both clients and contractors. This, and our familiarity with the contract forms and typical issues, enables us to provide the objective independent opinion that are valued by tribunals and clients alike."
