Ichthys LNG Central Processing Facility

220 kilometres offshore, Western Australia

Fabricated in South Korea, the column-stabilised offshore semi-submersible is the largest in the world.

The Ichthys LNG Central Processing Facility is the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in 40 years. It is ranked among the most significant oil and gas projects in the world. Three mega-projects rolled into one, involving some of the largest offshore facilities in the industry, a state-of-the-art onshore processing facility and an 890 km pipeline.

Commercial advice and claim consulting expertise in relation to delay and quantum resulting from scope change on the US$2.71 billion central processing facility (CPF).

What we did

Expert forensic analysis of delay events including causation, quantum and evidential requirements for use in strategic review.

Developed a claims strategy focused on maximising commercial recovery resulting from scope change whilst minimizing exposure to liquidated damages.

Prepared claims in line with the strategy utilising output from the forensic investigations.

Reports produced by HKA are integral to the claims and ongoing commercial negotiations that form the basis of global settlement claims.

HKA has supported the commercial team in the preparation of claims and in resolving ongoing clarifications from the client, Inpex.

Agreement in respect of liquidated damages and costs is anticipated in advance of sail away in March 2017.

"We continue to support EPC contractors in delivering some of the world’s most complex projects.

The financial risks associated with these can be considerable but HKA have the expertise to devise and implement solutions that protect our client’s interests.

This ability is clearly evidenced by our track record on projects of this scale."
