Bart Kavanagh is a Chartered Architect and barrister (non-practising) with over 40 years of construction industry experience. He has been appointed as a technical expert on more than 100 occasions.
Bart has been cross-examined in both litigation and international arbitration proceedings and has given concurrent evidence (hot-tubbing). He has presented evidence at numerous adjudication proceedings, frequently taken part in mediations, and has acted as an expert for projects with disputed values of up to £200 million.
Bart has extensive experience in leading architectural teams for projects including airports and both commercial and residential buildings. He has worked across the UK, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Greece and Italy on traditional, construction management, and design and build contracts. As an expert, he has been instructed on matters across the UK and the Middle East.
Bart’s expertise includes matters relating to professional negligence, project management, design management, design and building defects, contract administration, and a variety of technical issues. Since 2017, he has advised on the performance and regulatory compliance of external cladding with respect to fire safety on more than 20 high-rise residential buildings.
Bart is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA) and the Academy of experts. He has spoken at numerous seminars on a range of subjects including, design responsibility, specialist subcontractors and fire performance of external cladding. His book, ‘Avoiding and Resolving Disputes’ has been published by the RIBA, and he has authored numerous articles on expert evidence and advice.
