Iryna Akulenka is a registered expert witness with nearly 20 years of experience. She has assisted the named experts on numerous occasions.
Iryna has acted as lead assistant and led a team of assistants on quantum matters in litigation, adjudication, arbitration, and dispute boards across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Oman, South Africa, Tanzania, and CIS countries.
Iryna has a background in electrical engineering with project management and dispute experience across various international projects, including buildings, medical facilities, power (hydro, geothermal, gas-fired, combined-cycle gas turbine), transport infrastructure, oil and gas, refining plants, and manufacturing facilities. She teaches international arbitration with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has been nominated for a prestigious Middle East Consultant Award in the category ‘Women in Construction – Professional of the Year’.
Iryna specializes in complex contracts, quantum, and contract administration disputes involving assessing final accounts, quantifying variations, prolongation and disruption, damages due to termination, cost escalation and idle time claims, and other types of financial damages, losses, and expenses. She has been involved in several disputes across the energy sector, including wind farms, hydropower plants, and other types of power plants.
Iryna is dual-qualified with a degree in electrical engineering and a master’s in construction law and dispute resolution. She is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and sits as an arbitrator in construction and property disputes. Iryna is a panel member of the UK Adjudicators, a member of the steering committee for ICC UAE (Commission on Arbitration and ADR) and sits on advisory boards for the American University and British University in Dubai. She is also a member of the Society of Construction Law, the International Chamber of Commerce (UAE), the Arbitrator Intelligence, the Caspian Arbitration Society, Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge (ERA Pledge) Middle East Sub-Committee, and Equal Representation for Expert Witnesses Pledge (ERE Pledge) Middle East Committee.
