Sue Kim is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (UK-trained) and a qualified architectural engineer (South Korea-trained) with 20 years of experience in the engineering and construction industries. She has been appointed as quantum expert and has acted as an assistant to the named expert on multiple occasions.
Sue Kim receives widespread acclaim for her “excellent command of her skillset”, which comprises a “practical-mind and a proactive approach” that appeals to tribunals.
Sue has acted as a court-appointed, single joint quantity surveying expert (SJE) and a party appointed quantum expert in litigation, arbitration, adjudication and mediation. She has been part of a wider expert team, or the expert advisor, for disputes across varied buildings, rail, mining, nuclear power, LNG power and LNG pipeline projects.
Sue is an accredited expert witness with a decade off extensive hands-on project experience as a quantity surveyor. She has worked across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East on projects with values up to US$18 billion and disputed sums in excess of US$2.5 billion.
Sue specialises in the evaluation of variations in dispute, disruption, prolongation, acceleration and evaluation at termination. She has worked with various standard and bespoke forms of construction contract, including NEC, ICE, ICC, FIDIC, EPC, JCT and AS.
Sue is widely qualified in construction and legal matters. She is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a RICS and TAE accredited expert witness and a member of the Academy of Experts, the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators and the Society of Construction Law. She is also on a list of arbitrators for the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB) International and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Business Arbitration Scheme).
