FAR Proposed Rule to Adjust Certain Thresholds to Account for Inflation

On November 29, 2024, the DoD, GSA, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) issued a proposed rule to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to adjust certain statutory acquisition-related thresholds to account for inflation. The Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council (FAR Council) is statutorily required to review thresholds every five years and adjust the thresholds for inflation. The proposed adjustments generally apply the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers. Notable potential threshold adjustments include the following:

  • FAR 15.403-4 cost or pricing data threshold increase from $2 million to $2.5 million
  • Simplified acquisition threshold increase from $250,000 to $350,000
  • Micro-purchase threshold increase from $10,000 to $15,000
  • Prime contractor subcontracting plan floor increase from $750,000 to $950,000
  • Threshold for justifications of single-award indefinite-delivery contracts increase from $100 million to $150 million

The November 29 proposed rule can be found here.
