New directors Darcy Holderness and Zachary De Herrera bolster HKA’s capabilities in the energy sector 

HKA is pleased to announce the appointments of Darcy Holderness and Zachary De Herrera as Directors in its Construction, Claims, and Expert Services and Forensic Engineering, Architectural, and Scientific practices, respectively. 

Darcy and Zachary each bring extensive experience in the energy and power production sectors, enhancing HKA’s robust construction consulting and forensic analysis capabilities. 

Darcy has over two decades of experience in construction and engineering, specializing in power production, project management, and nuclear development in Canada. His expertise encompasses all phases of the energy project development lifecycle, including project oversight, site selection, engineering and construction planning, operational strategy, and stakeholder engagement. 

“I’m excited to join HKA and contribute to its dynamic Construction, Claims, and Expert Services practice,” said Darcy. “Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about advancing Canada’s energy infrastructure. I look forward to collaborating with our talented team to deliver innovative solutions for our clients.” 

As a licensed Professional Engineer, Darcy has led significant power and energy initiatives, including spearheading the development of Saskatchewan’s first utility-scale nuclear power supply option as well as major renewable energy, combined-cycle gas turbine, carbon capture, and coal-fired power generation projects. He is deeply knowledgeable about mechanical systems, pressure equipment, quality control methods, contract negotiation, and commissioning. 

Prior to joining HKA, Darcy was a Manager of Nuclear Engineering, Construction, and Project Delivery at SaskPower. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan.

Zachary has over 23 years of experience in construction and engineering, with a focus on oil and gas, electrical power and utilities, and commercial projects in the United States. His expertise encompasses managing and assessing power systems, industrial controls, and regulatory compliance, as well as conducting failure diagnostics and forensic engineering investigations. 

As a licensed Professional Engineer in multiple U.S. states, Zachary’s background includes supervising electrical reliability and instrumentation teams at major refineries, managing multimillion-dollar capital projects, and investigating complex electrical system failures. He has led emergency response efforts following infrastructure fires, conducted arc flash investigations, and assisted in preparing expert testimony for OSHA-related inquiries.

I look forward to working with our clients to deliver clarity, precision, and trusted expertise.” 

Zachary earned a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University, with additional credentials in instrumentation technology and applied mathematics.
