​HKA is delighted to announce the appointment of Sonwabo Mateyisi as Managing Director, joining the Advisory practice in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Sonwabo has more than 25 years of experience in investment projects across the manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, mining, and agriculture sectors. His career began at the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, where he gained extensive experience in both private and public-sector investments across multiple sectors, industries, and geographies.

Sonwabo brings a wealth of experience from his time at Deloitte and KPMG, where he advised both public and private-sector clients on complex projects spanning diverse industries and geographies. He has a strong track record in appraising, structuring, and delivering investment initiatives, working extensively with Development Finance Institutions, SoE’s, and private investors to drive impactful outcomes.

Sonwabo holds an MBA in Risk Management from the University of Saint Mary, a Master of Arts (MA) in Economics from the University of Johannesburg, and a Master of Arts (MA Hons) in Economics and International Relations from the University of Aberdeen.

Speaking on his new role, Sonwabo said, “South Africa is undertaking massive investment in infrastructure. I’m excited to be joining HKA’s advisory service line and look forward to working with globally recognised experts to make an impactful contribution to the country’s infrastructure development.”  

He will work closely with HKA’s global advisory team to strengthen HKA’s regional advisory service offering.
