Du Preez Kirstein is a construction delay expert with over 20 years of experience. He has been appointed as an expert on 39 occasions.
Du Preez has testified in arbitration proceedings regarding delay and disruption matters on major engineering, infrastructure, energy and construction projects. He has prepared expert reports for arbitration, litigation, and adjudication proceedings on disputes with values of up to US$900 million.
Du Preez specialises in forensic delay analysis, critical path assessment, extension of time disputes, disruption analysis, programme review, and the assessment of delay-related entitlement on major projects and disputes. His expert analysis work includes retrospective delay, as-planned vs as-built, windows, time impact, time slice windows, longest path, along with assessing programme reliability, contemporaneous records, and the evaluation of contractor and subcontractor extension of time submissions.
Background
Du Preez has a background in live project planning and programming experience, with particular regard to large capital projects involving complex programme interfaces, milestone completion regimes, disputed extensions of time, liquidated damages exposure, disruption, and competing delay methodologies. His work spans transport infrastructure, energy and renewables, oil and gas, mining, and building projects across Australia, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.
Du Preez is dual qualified with a master’s in construction law and arbitration and a postgraduate diploma in construction project management, as well as business training through Harvard Business School’s CORe programme. He is a practising associate of the Academy of Experts, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a fellow of the Institute of Construction Claims Practitioners, the Association for Project Management, and the Australian Institute of Project Management.
