Jim Johnson is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 40 years of experience. He has been appointed as a technical expert on over 20 occasions.

Jim has testified in geotechnical and civil engineering disputes at litigation before the Technology and Construction Court, including concurrent evidence (hot-tubbing), and has also provided evidence in formal mediation. He has produced expert reports on disputes with values of up to £10 million.

Jim specialises in ground engineering disputes. He has expertise in ground investigations, the selection of design parameters, and the geotechnical design of foundations, slopes, excavations, basements, and retaining structures for buildings, as well as for transport and energy infrastructure.

Background

Jim has acted as a project director on multi-disciplinary projects in the transport, energy, and nuclear sectors. He has board-level executive experience, including responsibility for assurance and risk, digital transformation, and design for future climate, and has participated in and chaired joint venture and alliance boards, delivering programmes of up to £1 billion.

Jim holds a master’s in engineering science and is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is a member of the steering group for the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction.
