Expertise
Matt Ösund-Ireland is a Chartered Environmentalist with over 30 years of experience in supporting commercial organisations, governments and financial institutions with strategy, environmental compliance, impact assessment and due diligence.
Matt has testified at planning appeals and for the House of Commons Select Committee. He has prepared technical reviews of air quality and climate change as part of environmental impact assessments and produced expert reports on projects with values of up to £15 billion.
Matt has expertise in carbon footprinting, climate and risk assessment, the development and implementation of emission-reduction and adaptation plans, and climate related financial disclosure. He has assisted clients in all aspects of air quality and emissions management (ambient monitoring, emissions testing, inventories, dispersion modelling, abatement, policy development and strategy implementation), working in different regulatory environments and on behalf of governments, lenders, and developers.
Background
Matt has experience with urban road schemes and trunk roads, light and heavy rail, airport expansion, industry and manufacturing, waste, oil and gas, power generation (renewable and non-renewable) and urban regeneration. He is a contributing author to several technical and policy guidance documents in the UK. For more than 10 years, he led the UK Dispersion Model Users Group, setting the programme for biannual meetings featuring speakers from industry, government and academia in the UK, Europe and North America.
Matt holds a doctorate in local air quality management and climate change and a degree in combined science. He is a Member of the Institution of Environmental Scientists and the Institution of Air Quality Management. Matt has developed and delivered numerous training programs on a wide range of topics, including emissions inventories, emissions management, environmental policy, monitoring and modelling and carbon footprinting.
