Commercial and contract management support for a data center

Brief

The client required additional, hands-on commercial capability to:

• Safeguard contractual and commercial entitlements across multiple concurrent projects.
• Manage a complex network of contractors and suppliers operating under different contract forms.
• Maintain robust records and contract administration in a fast‑paced delivery environment.
• Identify and manage key commercial risks, including bonds, insurances, liabilities, and compliance obligations.
• Support project teams to achieve timely delivery while maintaining cost and risk control.

What we did

HKA seconded a Senior Contract / Commercial Manager to work on site alongside the client’s project and delivery teams. The role provided embedded, practical support focused on strengthening commercial discipline and contract governance, including: Day-to-day contract and commercial management across construction and IT work packages, support contract negotiations with contractors and key suppliers, establishment and maintenance of contemporaneous project and contract records and active monitoring and management of commercial risks, including bonds, insurances, warranties, and liabilities.

Outcomes

Through the on‑site secondment, HKA supported the client in: improving consistency and rigour in contract administration and record‑keeping, strengthening commercial risk management and visibility across projects and supporting informed decision‑making during contract negotiations and project delivery. As well as, enhancing overall compliance with contractual and commercial requirements and contributing to more controlled project delivery aligned with programme and budget objectives.
