Fighting disease

About the Cause

We understand one of the principle factors of achieving well-being is living free of chronic or serious disease, or, where this isn’t possible, reducing the symptoms to allow people to lead a fulfilling life.

This is why, throughout the world, HKA selects charities that work to offer physical and emotional support for people and their families living with disease, as well as those striving to eradicate them entirely.

Here is a selection of charities we have supported that help fight disease.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

The JDRF Ride to Defeat Diabetes is Canada’s premier stationary bike cycling event. The Ride brings together teams from across corporate Canada to challenge themselves, build camaraderie, partake in friendly competition and pedal for a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

What we did

Colleagues from our Toronto and Montreal offices participated in teams, raising more $22,000 to raise money to find a cure for T1D.

Colleagues from Montreal: Lois Jeanson, Kristaps Thompson, Vincent Laroche, and Jonathan Brabant-Caya

Colleagues from Toronto: Rob Shull, Edwars Poon, Joe Pendelbury, Praveen Perera, and Parth Javia

In memory of our dear friend and work colleague, Roddy Wilkie (1957-2020), HKA donated to Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis. This charity was important to Roddy as he lived with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), a form of pulmonary fibrosis.

“I just wanted to get in touch as I can see that HKA made an incredibly kind donation via our website in memory of your colleague Roddy Wilkie. Thank you so much to everyone at HKA for supporting our work with this donation. It really will go a long way in helping us continue to provide our vital services.” Natalie Martin, Community and Corporate Fundraiser, Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis

Brain Tumour Research UK

Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.

What we did

Our Teesside office took part in Wear a Hat Day to raise money for Brain Tumour Research!
