Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated in Ayrshire since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer. Their aim is to improve the quality of life of those living with cancer and ensure that help is readily available throughout Ayrshire for those who need it.
What we did
HKA was proud to be able to support the excellent work of Ayrshire Cancer Support through the donation of six laptops, which allowed vital counselling and bereavement sessions to continue during the lockdown measures of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Technical Director Euan Geddes and the European CSR Committee helped coordinate the donation on behalf of HKA to ensure Ayrshire Cancer Support counsellors could access the NHS Attend Anywhere / Near Me technology as their previous computers did not have built-in cameras.
Sandra McCall, Chief Executive of the charity said, “Thank you very much for the kind donation of six laptops from HKA to Ayrshire Cancer Support to assist us to deliver online cancer and bereavement counselling sessions during the current pandemic.
“Prior to the lockdown our counselling sessions took place face-to-face in our support centres and we had replaced these with telephone counselling while our staff are working from home. The laptops will allow us to use the NHS Attend Anywhere / Near Me technology to give our clients the option of using this video platform, which will be of great benefit to many.”
Euan said, “A heartfelt thanks to [the HKA team] for your efforts in making this happen – it is a charity and a cause which is close to my heart so I am enormously grateful.”
