How we protect the natural environment

About the cause

HKA recognises that it can have an impact on the environment, both directly from our operations and indirectly through our services. We seek to manage our environmental impacts, risks and opportunities to reduce the cost of doing business and to protect and enhance the environment in which we operate. We are committed to outcomes that create multi-faceted benefits for the environment, our clients and the community as a whole.

HKA Charity Walk - Hong Kong 2024

EcoMatcher, a Certified B Corporation, plants trees and complete forests with vetted foundations / NGOs from around the world specialized in planting trees. They take into account the entire ecosystem of their tree planting and the domino effect it has on the area’s biodiversity as well as on the surrounding communities and people. Using their integrated technology platform, once a tree is adopted you can explore each tree’s exact location in 3D, obtain comprehensive information about the tree and learn about the person behind the planting and care of the tree.

What we did

HKA organised a charity walk in Hong Kong during the 2024 ICCA Conference. The event raised money for The Hub, a local charity that provides education, social health, and well-being support to disadvantaged children and youth in Hong Kong. HKA also adopted a newly planted tree on behalf of each participant. The tree was planted and will be cared for by the social enterprise, MyBhutan.

One Tree Planted

One Tree Planted has been dedicated to making it easier for both individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity, and help reforestation efforts.

What we did

Colleagues in our Asia Pacific region launched and participated in a month-long fitness challenge supporting reforestation across the region. The kilometres covered or colleagues’ time spent on activities were then be converted into points. For every five points recorded by our colleagues, HKA planted a tree. At the conclusion of the challenge, HKA donated 2,500 trees to One Tree Planted to support reforestation efforts in Asia and Oceania.

The Conservation Volunteers

TCV bring people together to create, improve and care for green spaces. From local parks and community gardens to Local Nature Reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest, from school grounds and hospital grounds to waterways, wetlands and woodlands. They connect people to the green spaces that form a vital part of any healthy, happy community.

What we did

HKA colleagues spent a day volunteering at Lavender Pond Local Reserve in London, working under the direction of the TCV team, clearing the reservoir, working on pond and bank maintenance and planting saplings.

Lavender Pond Nature Park was created with the aim of providing a haven for wildlife, an amenity for residents and an educational resource. The park covers 2.5 acres and features a variety of habitats, each with characteristics of communities of plants and animals. A system of wooden boardwalks enables people to see the plants and animals at close quarters without trampling the vegetation.

The Park is continually being developed to increase its value for education, improve facilities for visitors and create new demonstration features. A network of paths has been built to provide access for people with disabilities.
