Introduction
Forensic accountants play an integral part in assessing and quantifying losses, uncovering potential fraud, and providing expert analysis in complex construction/ commercial disputes. In an upcoming event, our practitioners will cover, amongst other topics:
- Damage assessment methods: the methodologies used to assess and quantify commercial damages resulting from construction-related disputes, such as breach of contract, defective work, or project disruptions.
- Insurance claims and coverage: assessing construction-related insurance claims, determining coverage limits, and evaluating the financial impact on the insured parties.
- Documentation and data analysis: the best practices for collecting and analyzing financial data in construction-related claims.
- Expert witness testimony: the role of forensic accountants as expert witnesses in construction-related legal proceedings.
- Case studies and examples: throughout the presentation the topics will be illustrated with case studies demonstrating the practical application of forensic accounting in construction-related insurance claims and commercial damages.

Speakers
Jonathan Ellis
Partner, Forensic Accounting and Commercial Damages, HKA
Jonathan is a forensic accountant with nearly two decades of experience. He has been appointed as an expert on more than 25 occasions before the Singapore High Courts, as well as in ad hoc (UNCITRAL), HKIAC, ICC, ICSID, LCIA and SIAC administered arbitrations. He is a widely experienced damages and valuation expert across multiple jurisdictions, a credible expert witness under cross-examination, and is ranked as a Global Elite Thought Leader in Arbitration by Who’s Who Legal. Jonathan holds a Master’s degree in accounting and management science and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Asia Pacific Institute of Experts.
Scott Ramsden
Country Manager (Hong Kong) and Principal, HKA
Scott is a quantity surveyor and construction professional with over 30 years of
experience. He has acted as a quantum expert in arbitration and mediation
proceedings, and assistant to the named expert on multiple occasions. He has broad experience in quantity surveying, dispute management, dispute resolution and litigation support, and regularly provides strategic advice for clients based on both contractor and consultancy experience. Scott is ranked as a Construction and
Consulting Expert by Who’s Who Legal, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an associate member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. He holds a Master’s degree in construction law and arbitration and a Diploma in quantity surveying.
