David King is an architect with 40 years of construction industry experience. He has been appointed as a technical expert on more than 30 occasions.
David has undertaken peer reviews as the architect expert and advised on a range of matters from design process and delivery, change management, project management and contract administration to workmanship, health and safety, fire codes, and technical and regulatory compliance (cladding, insulation, fire stopping, etc.). He has provided expert services for projects with disputed values of up to $1.2 billion.
David has been the recipient of several building design awards and worked for more than a decade as a technical principal for a major firm of international architects. His responsibilities included contracts, claims and dispute resolution as well as oversight of numerous multi-million-pound projects across a range of building types, including the commercial and medical sectors.
David’s expertise involves detailing and design coordination, with a particular interest in materials technology, research and the environmental performance of buildings; focused primarily on the building envelope. He has a wide-ranging knowledge of building regulations, codes of practice and British Standards, and many years of experience in leading both design stage and post-design technical reviews which enable him to apply a forensic approach to the analysis of building defects, conduct peer reviews and coordinate with counsel in evaluating claims and disputes.
David King is a fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and served on their international committee as ethics champion. He is a member of the Construction Industry Council’s building information modelling (BIM) forum and their liability panel, a practising member of the Academy of Experts, a member of Building SMART UKI and of the Apprenticeship Standards Trailblazer Group.
