Hamish has given evidence and been cross-examined in the International Court of Arbitration in Singapore, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the Court of Session in Edinburgh. He has provided concurrent evidence (hot-tubbing) in an international arbitration and remote evidence in a virtual hearing. His expert appointments have included disputes with values in excess of AUS$250 million, providing expert advisory services for defect and dispute investigations, and acting in a personal injury case.

Hamish has extensive experience as a project-running, senior architect, responsible for the delivery of commissions in both the UK and, during his early career, the construction of oilfield support facilities in the Middle East. He worked with the same established firm for 31 years, 28 years as a partner and 20 years as managing partner, where he combined his responsibilities as a partner with those of a project architect. Hamish has acted as lead consultant and contract administrator throughout his career and is well acquainted with a variety of procurement routes. He has broad ranging experience that includes the drafting of architectural and consultant appointments and the preparation of feasibility studies, scheme designs, production information, detailed and performance specifications, and condition surveys and reports.

Hamish specialises in education, commercial, retail and ecclesiastical buildings and conservation work. His expert reports cover matters such as building defects, compliance with building standards, design, standards of workmanship, professional negligence and contract administration. In addition to his own reports, Hamish has co-ordinated and reviewed expert reports prepared by specialist experts in acoustics, glass and swimming pools.

Hamish is a fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and accredited to their expert witness panel, a registered expert and member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, a member of the Australian Institute of Architects, and a member of the Architects Registration Board. He has completed a diploma in Construction Law, is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a practising member of the Academy of Experts. In addition to acting as an examiner for the final “Part 3” professional examinations for architects, he has lectured in Professional Practice for the Department of Architecture at the University of Strathclyde for a number of years. Whilst in practice, Hamish held an accreditation in building conservation from the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.
