Nabil has been a senior representative to the Abu Dhabi Government Claims Committee for 4 years, significantly enriching his knowledge of the common causes and resolutions of disputed projects in the region. He has been actively involved for several years in arbitration and mediation and has repeatedly acted as sole arbitrator and chair of DRB and arbitration tribunals on cases in Iraq, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and recently in Sharjah. In addition, Nabil has acted as an expert witness on many occasions and has been cross-examined in litigation and arbitration proceedings
Nabil’s experience covers all aspects of pre-contract and post-contract works, and he has acted as project manager on several major construction projects, such as Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. He is well versed in budget management, cost monitoring, value engineering and scheduling for all phases of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC).
Nabil Al Tawil specialises in assessing damages, evaluating contractual entitlement and provides advice and opinion in the course of resolving and settling disputes, through litigation or ADR procedures. He has a wealth of project management and dispute resolution experience, gained through providing arbitration and expert services across a wide range of sectors including power, oil and gas, infrastructure, construction, medical, aviation and military facilities.
In addition to his engineering degree, Nabil holds a PhD from Reading University and an MSc from Loughborough University in construction management. He is a Chartered Construction Manager and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building and the Chartered Management Institute, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Project Management Institute, a RICS accredited mediator, an accredited arbitrator by the Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah arbitration centres in UAE, and an active member of the Dispute Resolution Board Federation (DRBF) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
