HKA is deeply saddened to announce the passing of a much-loved colleague Christopher Miers.

Christopher, known as Chris, was a renowned construction dispute expert, talented Chartered Architect, and trusted Chartered Arbitrator. His respected reputation was built upon his infallible sense of professionalism and commitment to the highest standard of ethics and integrity.

Chris’s career, which spanned over 35 years, featured extensive experience as an architect in a wide range of building projects. He was appointed as an architectural technical expert hundreds of times, and also acted as an arbitrator, dispute board member, mediator and adjudicator.

In 1998, with a wealth of experience he had obtained in industry, Chris founded Probyn Miers, a firm specialising in engineering and architectural expertise. As its reputation grew, soon clients throughout the world turned to Probyn Miers in their times of need. Chris’s commendable technical experience, paired with his ability to reach equitable resolutions in disputes, set the course for Probyn Miers to become the world’s leading firm for forensic analysis, dispute avoidance, and dispute resolution in the architectural space. The firm became part of HKA in 2020.

Chris’s reputation in dispute resolution also brought him much external recognition, as distinguished professional organisations championing independent dispute resolution welcomed him among their ranks. Chris was a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and was on FIDIC’s President’s List Adjudicator for dispute boards. He was a past international president of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation and a past chairman of the Society of Construction Law. He was also a freeman and liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators.

Chris is survived by his wife Teresa.

HKA is proud to have become part of the story of Probyn Miers, and we will continue to honour the legacy of Christopher Miers in the successful business that he built with the unwavering support of many members of his family, friends, and colleagues.

Rest in peace, Chris.
