Sue Kim is called to the Bar of England and Wales

HKA is pleased to announce that Sue Kim, Director in our quantum team based in London, has been Called to the Bar of England and Wales on 26 November 2020. Sue passed all the Bar Finals on the first attempt with an overall mark as “Very Competent”, and with a breakdown as follows:

2. Resolution of disputes out of court – ADR (Outstanding);
3. Opinion writing (Very Competent);
4. Cross examination (Very Competent);
5. Examination in chief (Very Competent);
6. Civil Advocacy (Very Competent);
7. Criminal litigation, evidence and sentencing (Very Competent);
8. Civil litigation and evidence (Very Competent);
9. Commercial law (Very Competent);
10. Conference (Competent);
11. Professional ethics (Competent); and 
12. Company law (Competent).

Sue is a chartered quantity surveyor (UK-trained) and a qualified architectural engineer (South Korea-trained) with 20 years’ experience in the engineering and construction industries. She has been appointed as quantum expert and has acted as an assistant to the named expert on multiple occasions, having worked across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East on projects with values up to US$18 billion and disputed sums in excess of US$2.5 billion.

Sue has acted as a court-appointed, single joint quantity surveying expert (SJE) and a party appointed quantum expert in litigation, arbitration, adjudication and mediation. She has also been part of a wider expert team, or the expert advisor, for disputes across varied buildings, rail, mining, nuclear power, LNG power and LNG pipeline projects.
