Wednesday, April 26, was the 23rd Annual Scholarship Awards Breakfast for the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Washington, DC (ACE DC). HKA was a Silver Sponsor of the event, which was held at the Mayflower Hotel in downtown Washington, DC. Wayne DeFlaminis, Partner, has been an officer of the Board of Directors of the ACE DC Affiliate since 2014. Also attending were Partners Linda Konrath, Jennifer Flickinger, Jeff DuVal, and John McTyre and Principal JoAnn Coleman.

This year, ACE DC raised more than $100,000 and awarded 15 college scholarships of $5,000 to rising high school seniors participating in the ACE program. This was ACE DC’s highest fundraising amount since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The event was a success with more than 300 guests, industry partners, students, and ACE volunteers attending. Emily Grandstaff-Rice, President of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), was the keynote speaker.

About the ACE Mentor Program

ACE (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) is a nationwide, non-profit organization whose mission is workforce development for the construction industry. ACE strives to inspire high school students to pursue careers in construction through mentoring, scholarships, and fostering industry relationships. The program reaches students of all demographics, especially those who are not necessarily academically inclined or who may be interested in joining the skilled trades instead of pursuing higher education after graduating from high school. The ACE DC Affiliate serves schools in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia and is always looking for student mentors. Mentors meet with students every other week for one to two hours between November and April and help students develop their ideas for an all-affiliate student design competition at the end of the school year.
