2023 ACFE DC Conference

HKA Associate Director Stacey Ferris is excited to be part of the 2023 ACFE DC Conference, being held on March 1 and 2 in Washington, DC. Stacey joins Michael Pocalyko, CEO of SI, on March 1 at 11:00 AM ET to discuss “What Happened at FTX?” Together, they explain the basics of cryptocurrency fraud, analyze the FTX fraud, and consider the criminal case against Sam Bankman-Fried.

This year’s two-day, in-person event includes presentations on Fraud, Character, and White-Collar Crime and an Enforcement/OIG Summit, during which enforcement and Offices of Inspector Generals from various agencies share their thoughts and initiatives to prevent and/or detect fraud.

Stacey Ferris, Associate Director

Stacey Ferris is a forensic accountant and Big Four fraud auditor with more than 10 years of experience in large corporate, entrepreneurial, and classified federal government environments. Stacey’s technical expertise comprises emerging blockchain technologies and digital asset accounting. Her areas of expertise also include complex financial audits, litigation support, data and information systems, fraud investigation, risk management, and risk assessment. Stacey is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner.

Additionally, Stacey is an adjunct professor of accounting at the University of Maryland Smith School of Business, where she teaches a self-developed course on blockchain and digital assets in the Master of Accounting program. Her research encompasses developing the digital asset hierarchy and methodology for valuing non-fungible tokens, as well as contributing to professional and academic journals, including the Journal of Accountancy and the Journal of Forensic and Investigative Accounting.
