9th Annual OSMOSIS Conference (OSMOSISCon) 

Do you want to learn, network, and share with hundreds of other OSINT professionals? If so, join HKA at the 9th Annual OSMOSIS Conference, being held in-person at the Crowne Plaza in New Orleans and online via OSMOSIS’s Globalcast platform from October 15–17. This open source intelligence skills-building conference aims to educate and train cyber intelligence investigators, researchers, reporters, and analysts on OSINT and SOCMINT techniques and best practices.  

HKA Associate Director Jon Scherr is presenting on “Avoiding Data Sourcing Pitfalls” on October 17 from 9:00–10:30 AM CT. His session focuses on the process and methodology that should be followed by OSINT investigators in assessing the confidence level of the data they are gathering. Jon also discusses the importance of and need to double source information that is going to be used as part of an investigative report.  

Additional speaker and workshop sessions focus on open source techniques and skills related to exposing fraud, using artificial intelligence, identifying current and future threats and unknown users, and more. Other activities include an opening reception, networking events, and an expo hall.

Jon Scherr, Associate Director 

Jon Scherr is a certified fraud examiner with more than 15 years of investigative experience. He has testified as an expert in a matter involving insurance fraud and has acted as an expert in disputed matters with values of up to $250M. Jon has been appointed as an expert on more than 20 occasions.  

Throughout his career, Jon has worked on all facets of forensic investigations. He has prepared information requests, performed forensic accounting analysis, and drafted expert reports for cases in the insurance, entertainment, logistics, manufacturing, government services, pharmaceutical, retail, and financial industries. He has provided expert investigative advisory services in matters of employee malfeasance, executive breach of fiduciary duties, money laundering, and anti-bribery and corruption. Jon has also assisted clients with fraud risk mitigation, internal controls, and policies and procedures related to anti-money laundering, anti-terrorist financing, and anti-bribery and corruption.  

Jon’s expertise encompasses both domestic and international matters, including fraud investigations and litigation support. He has conducted corporate and white-collar fraud investigations involving Ponzi schemes, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the UK Bribery Act (UKBA), anti-money laundering, and fraud risk mitigation. Jon has also provided risk assessments and internal controls evaluations for design and operating effectiveness.
